RAW vs JPEG

RAW format is a proprietary image format from your camera. Every camera has a different RAW format. When you shoot and capture images in RAW format, all the information captured from your image sensor is transferred to the RAW image. This encoding scheme is lossless; meaning the information is not lost giving you full flexibility in post-processing.

JPEG, on the other hand, is a lossy encoding scheme and is less flexible when it comes to post-processing. Review links below why professional photographers choose to shoot in RAW format.
